rain delay

For my money, this is the funniest thing on the Internet this morning: Paste Staff's Personal "Entrance" Songs.

hyperbole, of course, but at least I have bangs again

I got a haircut today and I swear it fixed everything that was wrong in my life. It was like a good knuckle-crack or lower-back-pop or one of those really loud sudden farts that takes you totally off guard but once it happens everything is fine, even things you didn't realize were wrong. It helps, of course, that I hadn't had a haircut since August. Brittany at Grow in Decatur is responsible for that one and also today's. Too bad she's so awesome that I only feel compelled to visit twice a year.

Highlight, out-of-context-quotable: "I hope you already have Hepatitis." (First runner-up: "Why are you standing all alone?")

omgsxsw

Leaving for SXSW in the morning, will be blogging here (hopefully) throughout the week.

I packed last night. If you're in need of clothes and happen to be in the Austin, Texas, area sometime within the next few days, hit me up. I've got some extras.

one's named john, one's named blue

A lot's changed since the last time I visited Miriam in Athens. For one, there's a new kitten (but not the psycho, possibly-wormy one that showed up right before me last time, thankfully, because that one sucked). Also, she (Miriam, not the kitten) is totally engaged and also shacking up.

After a weekend spent surveying these recent developments, I can safely say I approve of both.

I also approve of The Grit, Agora and Ben & Jerry's Dublin Mudslide. However, I am not sure if I approve of This American Life as a TV show.

in like a lumbering, snot-infested lion

It was a sinus infection! I hadn't been that sick since last May when I spent the week before my graduation feverishly editing my thesis and stumbling around photography supply stores with a similarly-delirious Kelly Poor.

Friday was awful but I drove up to Chattanooga, acquired antibiotics from my good ole family doctor first thing Saturday morning, consumed one liquid ton of my mom's chicken soup, watched nearly an entire America's Next Top Model marathon and then spent the next twenty-four hours in a mostly horizontal, vegetative state. Miracle cure! Though I did miss Joe's last Meacham party, which I'd originally gone up there for. Maybe drunk, spaghetti-eating collegiate poets would have also done the trick, but I wasn't feeling risky: March is turning out to be a totally nutty month for me, and I'd prefer not to be cut off from the world by a wall of hot, gurgling snot and decongestants.

I'm headed to my first SXSW next week, where my days will be filled with this and might nights will be filled with... well, I'm not sure yet exactly, but something. Something involving music. And alcohol. Most likely on 6th street. Also, I'm pretty irrationally excited about Flatstock, where I will likely spend too much money on concert posters that I cannot afford to frame and therefore will let sit in the box with all my other concert posters that I also cannot afford to frame until I either can afford to frame them or give in and commit the grave and immediately regrettable sin of thumbtacking them the hell all over my walls.

Also exciting and upcoming: Wordsmiths is moving to Decatur Square! I will miss the Chik Fil A scent wafting through our open door on balmy summer evenings, but oh the foot-traffic!
