This pretty much represents why I dislike Jimmy Fallon: His ability to render unfunny things even so obviously ridiculous as the UTC Mocs basketball team. This bit completely lacks the sense of agog wonder one might assume would be elicited by things like, I dunno, how it was only ten years ago that UTC ditched the kinda-racist-ish Native American chief as its mascot, and replaced it with a train-humping bird, without actually changing the name? Also how, before the change, "Mocs" was short for "Moccasins," as in shoes? Shoes! Shoes that you can't play basketball in! And the bit makes a big deal about the team's 16th-seeded-ness, but fails to mention the even more remarkable failure of the Mocs football team, into which millions and millions of dollars are poured every year despite the fact that the team hardly ever wins, and students scarcely attend the games, even though their activities fees skyrocket every year to fund the enterprise. Weak sauce, Fallon. Weak. Sauce.
